ICA PRESENTS TAX INCENTIVE FOR FILM PRODUCTION AT BERLINALE

07/02/2017
On February 11th, the Film and Audiovisual Institute (ICA) will take advantage of its presence at Berlinale to present a new film production tax incentive to the international filmmaking community, just weeks before its entry into force.
This tax incentive for film production is part of the 2016 State Budget Law, having been established and approved by decree of the Council of Ministers on December 15, 2016. It is being presented by ICA to producers from all over the world at the Berlinale. The incentive offers refundable tax credit valued between 20% to 25% of production expenses in Portugal, depending on the project’s characteristics. Until recently, Portugal was one of the few countries that did not offer an incentive aimed at attracting or encouraging film productions - therefore, this will be an important reinforcement for Portugal’s competitiveness as a film production location and partner.

This new tax incentive applies to feature films (fiction, documentaries or animation) whose production expenses in Portugal are equal to or greater than 1 million euros. They may benefit national productions, official co-productions, de facto co-productions and foreign films (executive production / services).
